01

One bag per person

The safe default. Skinny eaters share, big eaters add a side. Don't overthink it — the planner works it out for you.

02

Book two hours

Boil eating takes longer than a normal meal. Cracking, peeling, chatting. Lock in 2 hours minimum for groups of 6+.

03

Mix the spice

At a group of 6+, somebody always wants Lemon Pepper and somebody always wants Extra Kickin'. Order mixed spice. Saves a table negotiation.

04

Pre-order to save time

Drop a guest count and rough mix in the planner. Our team builds the spread, you walk in and eat. Cake, candles and bibs ready.

GROUP PLANNER · 60 SECONDS

Scope your group boil in three quick clicks.

Tell us how many, what you're celebrating, and the spice politics. We'll spit out a bag count, a setup recommendation and an honest spend window. No email, no signup.

Step 01 / 03

How many guests?

Group sweet spot is 8 to 30. Walk-ins under 8 don't need a planner — just book a table.

Step 02 / 03

What's the occasion?

Doesn't change the food much. It does change how we set the room and whether we bring out cake plates.

Step 03 / 03

Spice mix?

Single level keeps the kitchen tidy. Mixed spice keeps the table happy. At 6+ guests, mixed almost always wins.

How to actually run a group seafood boil

What works for 6 to 8 people

This is the easiest size. Most Kickin'Inn restaurants can take a 6 to 8 walk-in on a weeknight without much warning, and you can usually get away with same-week notice on a Friday or Saturday. Order one bag per person, ask for a mix of spice levels, and add two or three sides (sweet potato fries, corn ribs, the slaw) to pad the broth-soaking. Total spend lands around $40 to $55 a head for food. Drinks are extra.

If it's a birthday in the group, drop a note on the booking and we'll bring cake plates and a candle. We don't do bakery cakes for you — bring your own — but we'll clear the table and set it down. Members of the Birthday Club get a free meal on the actual birthday at any location.

What works for 12 to 20

This is where pre-ordering starts to pay back. With 12+ guests, walking in cold means a 30-minute wait at the kitchen even if the table's ready. Use the planner above to give us a guest count and rough spice mix at least 3 days out, and we'll have the bags staged when you walk in.

Setup-wise, 12 to 20 is the sweet spot for a private area — a partitioned section of the restaurant that's not quite a separate room, but is yours for the booking window. Most locations have one. Find your closest and ask the team when you book. Two-hour minimum. Budget $45 to $65 a head, drinks separate.

When to talk to our functions team (20+)

Past 20 guests you stop being a big booking and start being a function. The difference matters because the kitchen runs differently, the room gets set up differently, and somebody on our side becomes the single point of contact for your event. That's the functions team.

They'll handle dietary lists, tax invoices, drink packages, set-time confirmations, and the question we get most: "can we run a slideshow?" (yes, at most locations). Lead time for a 20+ function is a week minimum and longer for Friday or Saturday nights in peak. Read how we've run corporate events if you want a sense of what's possible.

Spice mix tactics

Spice politics at a group table is the most underrated thing about a group boil. One person wants no chilli at all. One person wants to suffer. Most people want medium. If you order a single spice level for the whole table, somebody loses. If you order mixed spice, everybody wins and the kitchen is fine with it — every bag gets a sticker on the rim with the requested level. We'd recommend a default split of Mild for most of the table, Lemon Pepper for two bags (no chilli at all), and one or two bags of Hot for the chilli heads.

The broth is the same across every level — we just scale the cayenne. Halal certification is across the board. Whole Shabang sauce sits on the table for anyone who wants more heat on the side.

Dietary management

Every Kickin'Inn restaurant is halal certified. That's broth, sausage, sides and prep line. No alcohol in the broth. No pork-derived ingredients in the base. Shellfish allergy is the conversation that needs more care — the kitchen handles shellfish at every station, so cross-contact risk is genuine. If one of your group has a serious shellfish allergy, tell us when you book and we'll work out what's safe.

Vegetarians don't suffer too badly at a boil table. The corn, potato, sides and drinks are all theirs. The boil itself is shellfish-led though — there's no veggie main. A vegetarian guest at a boil is along for the ride, not the headline.

Drinks alongside the boil

Most Kickin'Inn locations are licensed. Cold beer and frozen cocktails go with the boil the way they're supposed to. For function-style bookings, we can quote a drink package: a fixed per-head charge that covers the bar for a window. That's easier than a running tab when you've got 20 people ordering at different rates.

The single best pairing with a Cajun boil is something cold and citrussy. Our frozen margarita, a lager, or a lemonade. Avoid red wine. Avoid anything that has to be sipped slowly. The boil moves fast and the drinks should keep up.

FAQ

Group bookings, the short answers

What's the minimum group size for a private booking?
Eight guests for a group brief. Walk-in groups of any size are welcome, but for guaranteed seating and dietary tracking we ask for 3+ days lead time on 10+ guests. Past 20 guests, talk to our functions team for a private area or dedicated function space.
How many bags should I order for my group?
One bag per person is the safe default. Some groups order one bag per 1.5 people and add sides instead. The planner above calculates this for you in three clicks — spits out a bag count, spend window and lead time.
Can we mix spice levels at the same table?
Yes. We label each bag with the requested spice level. Mixed-spice tables are normal at groups of 6+ — somebody always wants Lemon Pepper and somebody always wants Extra Kickin'. The broth is the same across every level, we just scale the cayenne.
Do you do birthdays specifically?
Yes. The Birthday Club gets a free meal on your actual birthday at any location, and it stacks with a group booking. For a birthday meal with the group, order through the planner and drop a note on the booking — we'll bring cake plates and a candle (you bring the cake).
What about dietary requirements?
Every Kickin'Inn is halal certified. Shellfish allergies are the harder conversation — the kitchen handles shellfish at every station, so cross-contact risk is real. Tell us before booking. Vegetarians: we have sides and drinks, but the boil itself is shellfish-led, so they're along for the ride.
How far in advance should I book?
Same-day for groups under 8. 3+ days for 10 to 20. A week+ for 20+ where you want a dedicated function space. Our functions team handles bigger and tighter timelines. Friday and Saturday nights in peak season need more notice than weeknights.
READY?

You bring the group. We bring the bibs.

Your closest Kickin'Inn is probably a 15-minute drive. Book the table, send us the brief, eat with your hands.
